Suse 9.3 and Raid1

Hi!
I´ve got a Siemens Computer with a LSI Hardware Raid. I want to mirror two SATA Disks. In the Setup of the Raid, i added an array with the two logical drives, but the Suse 9.3 installer always access the SATA drives directly, so, that no mirroring is possible. (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb) When i install the system on sda, no mirroring is done to sdb.

So how can i tell suse to access the RAID, so that i have only one Disk in the Yast Setup?

Thanks

Hi ,

you'll need to provide a driver for Suse to recognise the RAID drive you've created. This is easier said than done, since few manufacturers provide much in the way of recent distro drivers. Check out http://www.lsilogic.com/downloads/selectDownload.do for some suitable drivers, but from what I can see there's not much Suse support. If you do find a driver worth trying, get it onto a floppy.

In Redhat you would boot from the CD, and when presented with the options screen, you type "linux dd", to specify that you need to load a driver disk, and hit enter; I've not used suse in yonks so I'm presuming its roughly the same system here. It then prompts you to put your driver disk in, and loads the RAID driver before the install kicks off. Google for drivers for your LSI card, or try and load a generic driver if Suse will let you, like the MegaIde driver, or an intel ICH driver.

Good luck mate.
