after successfully getting SuSe 9.2 installed without any problems (as compared to 9.1) even the Intel 855 (Acer TM 661Lci) graphics chipset has been recognized.
Both, display and graphic adapter have automatically been assigned the desired sxga+ resolution of 1400*1050, but I still do not get a clear display.
The KDE background settings for screen resolution only goes to 1280*1024 - could that be the issue, or have SuSe/Intel not yet found a solution for the faulty video bios?
I have been searching for the solution for the last hour or so - doesn't anyone else have this problem with 9.2 ?
Thanks,
leif
ps. second problem: although suse plugger reckognizes a usb m$ intellimouse explorer, I can't use it!?
I just installed Suse Linux Pro 9.2 on my Acer Travelmate 6000. Although I set X up with a resolution of 1400x1050, when configuring the desktop, I can't crack it up higher than 1200x1024.....
Im not sure how exactly it works, and which program is to blame - but apparently X or kde picks up the video ram settings straight away, although hardware capabilities are detected ok. I got it to work with alain po... 855 resolution tool perfectly, just add a line to your boot.local.
also, another guy told me that he's gotten it to run without problems, if the Bios settings of the video system are set to auto, because with it set on 'both' hes just able to configure one of the outputs (external) with the other one being set to a unusable setting. haven't checked on my system, but if it works ill post back..
On my Toshiba A65 laptop, when I loaded SUSE 9.2 onto it, it detected the XGA chipset only had a resolution of 800x600. I let the sysgen finish (didn't want to screw up anything) & then went into YAST to try to reconfigure it.
Catch 22; I could, but the "SAVE" button was off the screen & I couldn't scroll down enough to get to it. Assuming a backdoor must exist to allow me to get around this temporary roadblock, I found it by going into SAX2 to reconfigure the video resolution.
When I chose the desired 1024x768; it said something akin to "not autodetected; accept anyway?". In test mode it worked fine at the higher resolution, so I accepted it, and everything was crystal clear at the higher resolution from then on. Just another solution to the same problem you experienced.
Not exactly the same here - in our case, the desired resolution was not opted in the configuration.
After running the 855resolution tool the desired resolution was available.
