Suse 9.1 IDE DMA Setup

I am curious about something. I finally figured out how to get DMA to automatically start when the system boots in Suse 9.1. I have the IDE DMA Setup set at DMA On (default mode) for each hard drive, my cd rw and my dvd. It recognizes the hard drives as UltraDMA/100 and the cd/dvd as UltraDMA/33. My question is this. Do I need to have the DMA On (default mode) set for the cd/dvd or does it help, harm or not really matter that much either way.

I don't have any hard evidence, but I would say No, DMA is important for fixed drives (hard drives) but not so for removeable drives (CD or DVD). In answer to your question I'd say that it might help, it wouldn't harm, but it probably doesn't make much difference either way. Just my 2 cents -- J.W.

Thanks J.W. That is what I was thinking but I wanted to be sure.
