Suse 9.1 ATI Drivers overclocking my card?

Alright... After many many troubles, I finally have my radeon 9800 pro recognized in Suse, 3d accel and all. My new problem is artifacts though, and a whole lot of them whenever I try to play a game at all. Almost immediately they appear and look very much like the artifacts you tend to see when you try to overclock a card. My question is, is this somehow being cause by my installing the drivers in perhaps an incorrect way? That it would think the clock rating is higher? (if that is even possible) or should I be looking at something else that maybe causing this?
