Suse 9.1 & ntl's ambit usb modem
hi there, im a complete newby to linux and am having trouble installing my ambit usb modem supplied by ntl.
my friend has a windows network and suse connected to the internet fine over the network but when i try to install the usb modem i cant get it to work. the modem is visible in the modems section in yast but when i try to configure it it tries to configure it as a dial up modem, whereas i have a cable connection that is "always on". im running suse 9.1 and win xp pro on a hp ze4500 laptop (amd 2500+, 512mb ram) any help with this would be much appreciated. thanks in advance |
im having exactly the same problem ntl ambit usb modem, im running suse 9.1 and its installing it as a dial up have you managed to solve this problem???

nah, i havent fixed this problem fully yet but i have managed to get around it using a network. i have a pc (windows) and a laptop (win/suse) on a network. i connect the modem to the pc and share the internet through the network. suse picks up the network and then i can use the internet. this is the only way i have figured out how to get the internet on suse.

Wow.
Odd to find one like this that's not solved yet and at the worst time since I've no clue either, just when I thought there might be a replacement for my beloved Slackware 10.0 I hope that someone can at least tell me if 9.2 has this fixed but it might be too early yet. But preferably (hopefully I mean) someone out there can really fix this for me. I'm not afraid of the CLI and I'd be more than willing to experiment if I get some ideas. Thanks in advance! |
