SusE 9.0 - hangs at Installation-bootup (while attaching my SATA drive...)

I just got my brand new Suse 9.0... was useing 8.2 before without any troubles...

however when I try to boot that Installation DVD, the system hangs after the following message:

hde: attaching ide disk... (something like this).

the hde is the disk on my third controller (eg. my SATA onboard controller)...

with SuSE 8.2 I had no troubles (sure it didn't recognize it at all... but I didn't care for that anyways...).

HOW can I prevent the system from automatically trying to attach that drive at bootup??? (kernel parameters?)

Thanks for the help...

"HOW can I prevent the system from automatically trying to attach that drive at bootup??? (kernel parameters?)"

Maybe you can disable IDE port 2 in your BIOS.

disabling the ide controller....

well unfortunatly, even if I could disable the sec. IDE in my bios, it would bring more troubles... I've got a dualbootsystem... and the Serial ATA controller, with it's SATA-HD attached to features my second OS... so disabling it from the bios isn't an option I've got.

I know there has to be a kernel parameter which allows me to stop the kernel from loading the specific driver, but I can't remember the exact way..

You only have to disable hde during the install so that the SuSE installer cannot find it when it scans all of the available hardware. You can enable hde again after the install is over. If you cannot disable hde in the BIOS then you could unplug the SATA disk until the install is over.

hey jailbait,

thanks a lot...

Sometimes it's more simple then I'd guess it would be :)
