SuSE 10 - problems intalling SATA hd
hi,
i have built a system with the following parts; amd 64 X2 4400+ giga-byte K8N ULTRA-SLI kingston 2 gb ddr400 samsung 80gb SATA II (x4) now it seems i can not complete SuSE's installation on this system. everytime i install the OS SuSE 10, it comes to a point where the system needs to reboot; when it comes back on it shows an error that says that Boot loader can not be found. i have understood that it is a problem with the configuration of those sata drives or their chipset and SuSE. i would very much appreciate your assistance as i have run out of ideas to install it. in fact, i have even attempeted to install (and i am sorry ~ install windows) but it still does not work - again gives an error: no hd found. thanks in advance for your assistance, nicolas www.brainpowered.net |
Did I interpret "80g SATA II (x4)" correctly that you have 4 drives?
I know about cases where the device.map points grub to the wrong HDD. You could try to boot a Live Distro or the rescue system and change the order in /boot/grub/device.map. There may also be a BIOS setting that confuses grub. Do you have any RAID modes enabled? |
hi abisko00,
there are 4 hd; all sataII. i agree with you that it is a problem for the system to identify which hd to boot up. i have no raid configuration done on the nforce chipset. but i can not work out how to solve it. the boot loader on the motherboard is nvidia boot agent 201.0462. thanks, nicolas |
giving up
i have looked around, and there are folks that have managed install suse 9.3 on this motherboard.
but i have not found a line of how to do it. thus i will by an ide hd and for the OS and SATAII for storage until better driver(modules) become available. nicolas |
i think i figure the problem
in the bios, we can set the boot up order for the hd.
thus, i could set a sata hd to be the first. it is trick because the hd count starts in ZERO and Suse's in 1. but it is doable. |
