Been trying for a few days to get dual monitor setup to work in a fresh install of SuSE 10. If anyone here can shed some light on this, I would be mighty grateful. Let me start by giving the specs on the relevant hardware:
GFX Card: ATI X800XL AGP (dual head - one DVI and one VGA)
Screen0: Samsung 913T - connected to DVI head with DVI cable
Screen1: Samsung 730B - connected to VGA head
I'm attempting to setup a "traditional multihead" enviroment, and when I boot with the following xorg.conf, Screen1 is black (not receiving signal - green light flashing):
Best way to dual monitor given you are running with ATI is to use ATI's official drivers. Then you can just kmenu > ATI Control, go to Dual Monitor tab, and set it up exactly.
I don't know why you would reasonably want to do it any other way.
As for getting the ATI up and running right, check my website(click the link in my sig), ATI Install.
Ok, I followed your very clearly written instructions for installing the ATI drivers and then ran fglrxconfig. I chose the default value for most of the questions, and chose to setup dual monitor. Upon reboot both my screens did not work - they went black.

I restored my previous version of xorg.conf (see original post) and restarted X. I now see an option in the Applications menu for ATI Control. When I open the ATI control I get the following warning:

Could it be the fglrx driver is not loading? I followed your instructions to the letter, and all went well. I'm stumped.
Well, my bet would be upon restoring you old xorg, the specialized ATI stuff was not able to load.
Try doing the installs again, as per my site, but just use single monitor. Once complete with the setup and you have rebooted, then go into the kmenu ATI control to enable your dual monitor.
Most likely when setting it up to be dual during install, the issue is arising. So try doing the ATI install solo to make sure it works first, then worry about the dual monitor second, should make it more obvious what happens if/when the black screen afterwards. My guess is the ATI config is setting the resolution weird or something and the monitors blip off unable to handle the input. There are numerous threads about that being the case single monitor, so before looking heavily into that, let's try getting the first one up and running so you have a healthier XOrg to run off of and back up before delving into Dual.
And then it will also have 4 options under the Dual Monitor tab:
Disable Secondary Monitor
Clone Mode
Extended Desktop Vertical
Extended Desktop Horizontal
