Surge protector plus extension cord

I was wondering if there are any disadvantages/reasons why you wouldn't want to plug a computer into an extension cord and the extension cord into a surge protector rather than going straight to the surge protector?

You need to have a heavy duty extension cord, rated the same amp or higher than
the UPS can handle. I'd stick with a short cord that's at least 16A, but it is always
best to go direct if you can. Your UPS should also have recommendations, if not a
booklet, then check their website. I always use APC.
