supported video cards?

Is there a long list somewhere where I can find video cards supported by linux?

I'm currently considering an Asus EN6200 (w/Turbo Cache, 256MB, PCIE), if anyone has used it before. Are the supported video cards any different from distro to distro? If so, I'm using Kubuntu 6.06

You can look at the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) up above. Otherwise, google can be your friend too...

I've googled the video card, but I can't find anything, other than stores and stupid articles that point me to 404's.

The wiki and forum don't have the model.

Is it this one? If so, it looks like an Nvidia chipset, so you have a good probability of it working.

If you look up Nvidia in the HCL, I found this one which looks like the same chipset...

Thanks for that. I didn't check nVidia, went with ASUS. Thought going to nvidia might give me different results...

Cool

When considering Graphics Adapters...short list. A) the Chipset<the manufacturer> B)the Vendor<the Distributor> C)the Driver< the Software> D)the Features<the tweaks that increase performance, like programs and capabilities>. When looking for HCL items, try the chipset first. A product may behave the same with the same chipset. It may behave differently with the same or similar name. When using www.google.com it is really easier to use the manufactures number. Like Radeon 9200 PROL would be 9200.

Hi,

the most important thing to mention is: you should have a look at the chip(s) which are on the board. this is important for nearly every hardware you buy and use with linux.
Graphic cards with nvidia chipset are always good (my opinion ). The only problem with nvidia drivers are they are not open source (some peoble dislike it).

Greetings

ToK
