Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Suggestions for how to best use the MX1000

I picked up a Logitech MX1000 yesteday, and got it all set up on my Windows Box, and now I'm here on my Gentoo Desktop, using only the three buttons + wheel.

I checked the HCL, but all I got was a 'it works'.
Are there any cool tricks or functions any of you use with all the extra buttons?

For those who don't know, there is:
The standard left and right buttons, wheel that rolls up and down, clicks in, and also clicks left and right.
There is also the buttons above and below the wheel that act as a click scroll. (i.e. you press the down and it does the same thing as one mouse wheel down does).

Then there are the extra three buttons on the inside/thumb.
Another up and down (left and right?) click, with the 'application switch' button (by default in windows).

Does anyone have:
1) Information on how to best configure this all in xorg.
2) Suggestions for how to most effeciently put everything to use?

Thanks .

Hello,
I have the MX500..
My scroll wheel works, so does the click scroll up and scroll down. I have my forward and back button working in Firefox, however, the pseudo "alt-tab" button on the mouse that works in windows, does not work for me.
Now, I'm sure I could go to some extent and configure it, but it's not necessary.

/etx/X11/xorg.conf
Code:
Section "InputDevice"

   Identified "Mouse"
   Driver "mouse"
   Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
   Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
   Option "ZAxmisMapping" "6 7"
EndSection
~/.xinitrc
[code]
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
exec fluxbox
[code]

Note, I put "exec fluxbox" in there just to show that I set my XModMap config before launching my WM.
Hope it helps,
-Jason

P.S. All the above information can be found online, that's where I found it. :-)
-Jason
