Suggestion for linux friendly sound card

I have Kubuntu linux, it is debian based. I am beginning to believe that my sound card is crap. Can anyone suggest a good sound card, that is cheap and has an alsa compatible driver? I need voice input compatibility. I think it is crap because my old $55 headset crap out in Windows(with all the appropriate drivers installed) and the that headset and a brand new $50 headset fails to capture voice in linux.
