I have RH9 on my computer and i have installed also KDE desktop so i coud use XP look a like theme but here a problem accoured

Before that i used gnome desktop and sound works fine if i'm loged in as root or a ordinary user.

But in Kde the sound only works if i'm loged in ass root if i'm loged like an ordinary user it reports that there is no soundcard detected....

is there a problem with the premisions or what ia have checked all the wolumes and setings and all ok even if i go to soundcard detection it will find cmi8738 card and when i press play no sound comes out of it

please help :D

It sounds like the KDE sound daemon aRts (under control panel, multimedia, stuff... somewhere), is set muted for joe user. Might just want to see if the regular mixer settings are muted.

Cheers,

Redhat does not support mp3's "out of the box", you'll have to install that support yourself. Have a look here.

http://www.xmms.org/download.php

good luck.

Still no sound from xmms? Is something else tying up the sound card?
good luck.

Disable aRts, that's usually a good bet when other applications can't get access to the sound card... at least, that's what helped my crappy cmpci card in the past.

Run the sound setup. Make sure you restore the sound settings (Restore Mixer) and your drivers are setup for the spacific card.
