If you boot straight to a GUI, then you should open a terminal/console (the thing that looks like the ol' Windows DOS box) and type init 3
. You should, however, install the program as per JPohara's instructions before
doing this. When you type init 3, it'll close X (the GUI portion of Linux) and drop you back to a text console. You might need to login again... I can't remember (I default to RL 3, so I've not used init for quite a while
). In order to run sndconfig and have it setup your soundcard properly, you should run it as root, so either login as root (bad) or login as a normal user and use su root
to temporarily become the root user (good).
