Strange display errors on i810 chip

Hello all,

I have some questions for you;

I have three PC's at my office right now that all have an i810 graphics chip. The Pc's are different make/models, but the problems are related to the i810 chip.

Everytime I make a clean install on any of these machines, they work nicely (Slackware 10). Then I start tinkering around, updating and installing, and at some point it all goes pearshaped, in lack of a better word.

The errors come when upgrading the X server, I think, and most of them I have fixed myself, but everytime I get everything looking good, I get the same error, which I have -NO- idea how to get rid of:

The screen looks nice, until I use the mouse and activate a menu. Seemingly, nothing happens. But when I move the mouse, I see that the menu is open, but not visible. The different menu options appear, however, when I hover the mouse over them. When I enter Gnome or KDE, the system works, and many things are displayed correctly, but things like menus, frames around application windows, the keyboard cursor and animations are either gone or transparent.

My xorg logs report of failure to allocate memory for the DCACHE and HWcursor as well as ARGB cursor, but I am sure that the memory settings of the xorg.conf file matches the AGP aperture of the BIOS/i810-settings.

Any ideas?

Best Regards, Fluxien
