Special Function Keys on a Logitech Keyboard
 

Hey all. First off, I am running Gnome 2.10 on top of Ubuntu 5.04.

Anyways, I broke my nice, laptop shaped keyboard for my desktop today so I pulled my Logitech keyboard out of the closet. It is working fine under Linux, but it has a bunch of special keys (things like Back and Forward buttons for a web browser, E-mail button, Messenger button, etc). Does anyone know how to go about getting these keys working under Linux, if at all possible? It isn't the biggest deal in the world, but it would be nice to be able to use them. I don't even know where to begin getting them to work.

Maybe try this: http://lineak.sourceforge.net/ This program supports few Logitech keyboards, so maybe your too ;)
However I never used it so I can't say how it works ;)

Hey, I never realized it but Gnome has a utility built right in to use the special function keys (it used to be called acme and was seperate but they were merged when Gnome 2.6 was released). It works quite well, I have my email, media keys, volume control, a thing to launch my file manager, etc. It was painless to set up, you just launch the utility, click on a function, push the corresponding button on the keyboard, and its set. To unset something, just click it and click backspace.

For anyone who would like to set this up, download Acme if you have Gnome 2.0-2.4, and if you have 2.6 or later just launch :
