Question Speakers have high-pitched sound that won't go away.

I'm using Mandriva 2008.0 with KDE.

I hear a high-pitched sound whenever my Cyber Acoustic speakers are on. I don't get the sound if I plug the speakers into my portable CD player.

The soundcard is built in:

Identification
Vendor: ‎Acer Labs Inc.
Description: ‎M5455 PCI AC-Link Controller Audio Device
Driver
Module: ‎snd-intel8x0
Alternative drivers: ‎ali5455, i810_audio, nvaudio

Is this noise a software or hardware problem?

Thanks.

Same thing happened to me once, I opened up alsamixer and muted some sliders one by one until it stoped and then played something to see if it still worked. If you get it to work;
alsactl store
to save the settings
to mute the slider in alsamixer enter m to unmute same thing to move from slider to slider the --> key

I figured out which options in the software work with the speakers, but that didn't solve the problem. I still hear music + the annoying noise when I plug the speakers into my soundcard.

I read somewhere that ferrite beads might help. Am looking into it...

[Edit] The beads did not help.[/Edit]
[Edit] I found out the speakers were defective. I exchanged them. [/Edit]
