Sparc 5

I aquired a Sparc 5 a while ago and I finally got a chance to start using it. I turned it on and it's running SunOS 5.6 (solaris 2.6). It's Ethernet Address is: 8:0:20:78:2e:76. The Host ID is: 80782e76. The services that it's running are: NIS, RPCbind, keyserv, ypbind, and kerbd. The machine gets stuck on Waiting for NIS Connection for what I believe is an infinite amount of time. I tried setting up a system as a NIS client and server with no success. I'm not sure if it's even using TCP/IP. If it were using TCP/IP, I don't know the IP Address. However I do know network is working due to the green light on my switch. I have an external CD-ROM connected but it won't boot off any of the CDs that I have tried.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

See if you can boot from a floppy and temporarily disable the NIS deamon coming up.

I don't know anything about Solaris or if it even uses an ext2/3 filesystem, but you could try that.
