Sound volume is low

Hello to the forum.

I have just built a new system with the Asus K8V VIA K8T800

All works well, I even have the onboard sound working.

This is installed in a dual-boot SuSE 9.1 and XP Pro. PC.

The issue I am having is that the sound works, nice and clean no crackling, but it low. By low I mean that with all the sound volumes turned all the way up, it is only at about 1/8 of what it should be.

On XP it works perfectly. So I do not think it is a MB or BIOS issue.

Is there something in Linux I can check?

Thanks in advance...

See the answers here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=249188

Don't forget to run kmix/aumix/your gui volume setting to make sure that after you raise the volume with alsamixer that the gui has also picked up the change.

Done deal, that was it.

It was the VIA setting for the VIA chipset in the ALSA Mixer.

Thanks guys...

How did you fit it?

I just installed a new motherboard (gigabyte RZ) and am using the onboard sound but it is way to low. The Kmix harware info says: sound drivers supported: ALSA0.9 + OSS sound drivers used: ALSA0.9

AlsaMixer v1.0.5 tells me Card: VIA 823x rev60 Chip: Realtek ALC655 rev 0 Item: Master.

How can I make the sound louder like it was before?

Jak-
