Ok...Have you tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see what error messages appear when you try to use the device?
Also, is it properly configured??(rigjt IRQ, you have to check that on your hardware documentation!)
I have a via EPIA 5000 which has the same sound card as yours and I installed also RH 8.0, and wondered for a long time why the card was not recognized until I realized... that I had put the speakers in the mike entry.... RH 8.0 recognized the sound card from the start without any tweaking for me.
