My soundcard is a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio... and if the redhat-config-soundcard is the same thing i get from the applications menu in the system setting part, then yes i have run it... it seems to be recognising and using a compatible driver though because I do get some sound for a while though...

btw could this be to do with certain applications that may be running???

I could be to do with sharing irq with another card (maybe check bios) does the problem seem to be worse when u r using ur modem for instance if u r not connected to the internet does it see to work better or maybe when u r just playing a cd (try swapping slots).... sound probs and modems seem to go hand in hand . U could maybe try going to http://www.alsa-project.org/ to see if there is an updated driver if all else fails...or maybe someone else with the same soundcard can offer some other advice :-)
