Sound problem with Slackware 9.1 on IBM Thinkpad 600e

OK, so I am having the same problem that just about everyone else has had with the 600e: sound doesn't work. I have seen lots of fixes for other linux verions, but none of them seem to work. I have tried editing modules.conf, but as the comp is booting, it says that the use of modules.conf is depricated and that it will not be read. I have tried using the alsaconf, but it causes a kernel panic. I have no idea what to do. Anyone have an idea?

hey im having this same problem with the same kernel too, if any1 has figured this out this info i would GREATLY appreciate it... me and a couple of guys have been working on it a few days now...
