Question Sound problem

I am newbie with Linux.
I have HP Vectra VL-600 computer. I have installed Suse Linux 10.1. Amarok plays mp3 fiels and RealPlayer plays .ram files. Kmix loads .mid files and starts to play but there is no sound. And Krecord starts to record but it does not save any data on files. Is the problem with hardware or are there some rpm-packages missing? Does anyone know all the packages which are needed for audio recording and playing MIDI? I can hear my voice from speakers so the microphone system is working.
Here is hardware information attached:

hey

Hi, i'm not quite sure i fully understand ur problem as I believe that kmix is a sound mixer for KDE, as far as I was aware it wasn't a media player?
