Sound not working

Hey, I just re-installed Debian (sarge) the other day. I have kernel 2.6.7 and I'm using KDE 3.2. My sound doesn't work. It sometimes plays the first beat of the KDE intro song then cuts off. I once heard it beep but when i tried to make it beep again it didn't. lsof | grep dsp shows that artsd is using /dev/dsp. My sound card is an intel8x0, it is built into my motherboard. Does anybody know how I could fix this problem with my sound?

Sound not working

I think i have the same problem. Tell me if you fixed it! I can hear only a fraction of second. The sound card is working properly, but something must be wrong with the decoders.
Someone can help? Thanks!
Javier.

I don't want to change my distro because i have a problem with the sound.
The sound card should be ok, but i just can hear a portion of second of each sound and then it goes out... it used to work properly, but now i don't know what to do. I tried to actualize the codecs, but it didn't solve the problem.
