Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Sound Keeps Causing Crashes! :(

I keep getting crashes and freezes and it seems to have something to do with sound,
for example when I booted up my machine yesterday I connected to the net and did some browsing, then I turned on amarok and tried to play some music but nothing came out then the system locked.
It happened again where no sound would come out so I tried some games and there was no sound on them either, the only thing that seems to bring the sound back is a reboot, but even then it seems unstable and will just stop working now and then, sometimes causing the system to crash completely.

Sometimes it works fine and other times it seems very problematic.

I am stuck on this one

Any ideas?
