Sound isnt working?

Today i signed onto my ubuntu linux machine like normal, and for no apparent reason it didnt work. The alerts worked when i turned the computer on but just not when im trying to listen to music. I then decided to try on a guest session to see if it was working and it worked perfectly, i assumed it may of just been low volume on my account so i logged back on and turned volume up, but still it isnt working? Can anybody help?

download and install the also sound driver pack if it doesn't work then restart if still nothing then opern up a terminal and issue the following commmand
Code:
sudo alsoconf
there should be a list of soundcards displayed select the one you intend to use and also will install the drivers (if any) for them

sorry my mistake that was a typo

if alsoconfdoesn't do the trick then try installing a new kernel maybe support for your sound card will come
