Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Sound is Skipping

As you might have seen, I had a hell of a time trying to get my intedrated nForce sound to work in Mandrake 10.1 Official, and I never got it done. So I found an old sound card (Ensoniq 1370) and plugged it in. The card is working fine under Windows, but in Linux, whenever I play sound, I get terrible static and skipping.

I am using the snd-ens1370 driver and have also tried es1370 with the same result.

In the KDE control center, I gave sound real time priority and made the sound buffer "as large as possible" This did not work.

When I start some sound apjplications, I get an error saying this:
Message from syslogd@localhost at Fri Jan 14 09:17:19 2005 ...
localhost kernel: Disabling IRQ #11

The sound works in MPlayer (not perfect, but usable), but nothing else (xmms, kaffeine, xine, etc.)

Does anybody know what I can do?
