Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Sound cards for RedHat 9 and XP

Hello there,

I have finally found a dirver for my Creative sound card. This one was not supportted through the emuk01 driver, I could only find one at opensound and they want $45.00 to make it permanent. For that price I may as well buy a new sound card that is supported by both OS's. Any favorites in a mid range sound card for both RedHat 9 and XP Pro?

//Moderator's Note:
Moving to Linux - Hardware as the question is certainly a hardware question

Sounds like you probably have a Dell computer? If so, then Dell gave you a kluge of a sound card that is designed to only work in Win**, and will not work in Linux, unless you pay the money to buy that additional driver.

Currently I threw away my Dell sound card (SB Live! Value), and replaced it with a MADDOG Prowler board. Now, I have beautiful sounds when using either Win** or Linux.

If it is a Dell, I would not hesitate to call them up and give them a hard time for sabotaging your capability of being able to use a different OS, besides Win**.

Thumbs up Hitting the nail on the head

Hello again,

You certainly hit the nail on the head. I have a dell computer and the problem with this card is exactly as you described. I will check out the MADDOG prowler for sure and I will definately let them know my problems with having windows only components. I thought they were supposed to be progressive in this area. Thanks for the prompt response!
