Sound Card not visible in Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS

I have a HP dc5750 with a triple-boot Win 7, Ubuntu 12.04, and Ubuntu 10.04. I can't see my sound card in Ubuntu 10.04 and I have sound in the other OS's. I believe that I lost the sound after installing the updates just after installing the system. Tried a fix that fixed the sound in Maverick Merekat, but doesn't work with Lucid Lynx. I am completely stumped on this any help is much appreciated my sound card is ALC260.

Thanks

First,...Are you positive it's the sound card, and not the mixer settings?

If it's not the mixer try the following...

Code:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Add the following:
Code:

options snd-hda-intel model=imac24
