Sound card config in debian squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 using Asus P9X79-pro

Hi folks,

I've just installed the last stable version of Debian (squeeze), kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64. I'm new in the world of debian and I need to configure my sound card which apparently is not recognized by the system. I use the integrated sound card of the motherboard on which I'm running (Asus P9X79-pro). I've searched through many forums but I cannot work out with my problem.

It seems that the device is recognized but is not correctly configured.
The output of lspci | grep -i audio is the following:

I wouldn't run Debian Squeeze on a machine that new, you will run into problems with that because of the older kernel. Try Debian Testing/Wheezy instead, it should work better with your hardware.

Hi Tobi, thanks for your reply. You're right but I'm used to work just with the "stable" releases so I was waiting for Wheeze to become "stable". Thank you anyway. So, are you think there's no way to make it work on Squeeze?

You may be able to find a driver for it and compile it yourself.
If you have a newer Nvidia card in the system you will also have to run the driver from the backports repository.
I personally wouldn't consider that worth the time and just go for Wheezy, it is pretty stable by now.
