Sound Blaster Live 5.1

I recently built a computer, with the sole intention of a dedicated Linux system. Dual boot did not work well for me.

I have a A7V-133 mainboard, 384 MB of SDRAM. AMD 2000+ processor. The video card is just a PCI type, able to get a resolution of 1024 x 800 out of it. It is fine for Linux.

Right now the main problem is the sound card, SB Live 5.1, I went to the SB website, but they do not have drivers for Linux.

Now, I have feeling that maybe if a connect my 44x CDROM, (generic), to the sound card, that there will be sound. Which I will do tonight.

However, does Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, during installation automatically detect the sound card?
Do I really neeed linux drivers for the SB Live to work?

Anybody else with same problem?

Thanks for relys.

My experience with Sound Blaster Live under linux is that is automaticaly detected most of the time. I expect Ubuntu to do this without trouble. The Sound Blaster driver (EMU10k1) should be included and automaticaly loaded, so no additional drivers are needed.
