Sound Blaster Audigy SE vs. Suse Enterprise 11

I am losing my mind.

I cannot for the life of me get this sound card to work. I'm relatively new to Linux but I'm picking up things quickly.

Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE (SB0570)
OS: Suse SLES 11 (2.6.27)
ALSA: 1.0.17

First thing I did was disable the onboard audio in the BIOS. Install the card, hook up speakers, turn up the speaker volume. After booting up, the mixer will start up and show me all the levels I can adjust. There are several for digital output, analog output, and capture. I turned them all up.

I open a terminal and try:
Code:

aplay /usr/share/sounds/email.wav
It then sits there trying to play the wav but I get no sound. It doesn't even finish, it just hangs there till I CTRL+C.

I go to "Configure Desktop" > Sound and see the following listed:
Code:

CA0106, CA0106 (side speakers)
HW: 0.0
HW: 0.1
HW: 0.2
HW: 0.3
HDA Intel (ALC662 Analog))
AudigyLS [Unknown] (CA0106)

The AudigyLS line concerns me because that is a very different card.

I go to YAST > Hardware > Sound, and listed is:
Code:

index | card model
------+------------------
0    | SB0570 [SB Audigy SE]

Which is the correct card and model

I then ran alsaconf which did its thing with no trouble.

I opened alsamixer and made sure everything is at 100% and nothing is muted.

I've tried hooking up the speakers to each different output on the card. Still, no sound.

I've scraped Google dry with every search term relating to Linux sound support, this specific sound card, etc. The only thing I found that gives me hope is this: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Sound_Cards
It looks like someone was able to get it working by manually editing the .asoundrc

Unless that's a code word for something really simple, I'm lost...

Two Questions:
1. Has anyone had luck with this card?
2. Any suggestions as to what I can try? (Anything will highly appreciated)

Mrbob,

I found a thread in which a person was successful with your sound card on openSUSE 11.1 using pulse audio. I don't know if SUSE 11 is running pulse, but you may want to run through this thread and give it a shot.
