Hello,

Log in a 'root' then run 'alsaconf', which should set your sound card up.
Then run 'alsamixer' to set the proper sound levels.

The run 'alsactl store 0', which should save your settings....

Then add 'alsactl store 0' to your file called /etc/init.d/rc.local which is a file that runs command, scripts etc as the system loads.

I think that's how you do it.

Hi Scope,

Sorry I usually post in the Slackware forum.

The file i was talking about won't be in SuSE.

Does the computer remember the configuration when you reboot?

If 'alsactl store' does the job then you are okay.

alsa's not really my forte. I guess i shouldn't have got involved!
I never had much success at getting onboard sound to work in Slack.

Does SuSE have gnome? I have it on my laptop but have barely used it yet.

And if so how do i switch to Gnome from KDE, considering it boots into run level 4.
in slack i would run xwmconfig......

Please note to anyone reading i made a mistake in my ealier post, it was supposed to be:

'alsactl restore 0' rather than store

hi there,

okay:

I realise that the package:

kdemultimedia3-mixer

might be over writing the thing after you run alsactl store.

so remove it then follow the steps i outlined....

should work. although i guess you won't be able to use it to adjust your sound........
