Sony vaio S series - 1280x800 resolution in X

I have X installed and running fine on my new Sony S series laptop. Unfotunately, I can only get it to display at 1024x768. The laptop has an Nvidia geforce 6200 with turbocache and I have not installed any nvidia drivers (I heard that they do not work - cannot post the link as I don't have enough posts ). I have tried creating a modeline on the command line, but this didn't do anything for me.

xorg.conf:
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "X.org Configured"
        Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
        InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
        InputDevice "Mouse1" "SendCoreEvents"
        InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

...mouse and keyboard stuff here...

and a little bit of my xorg log:

I'm not sure if this is just a modeline problem or something else. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Has anyone got it working on an S series Sony and would be willing to share their xorg.conf?
