Sony vaio S series - 1280x800 resolution in X
 
I have X installed and running fine on my new Sony S series laptop. Unfotunately, I can only get it to display at 1024x768. The laptop has an Nvidia geforce 6200 with turbocache and I have not installed any nvidia drivers (I heard that they do not work - cannot post the link as I don't have enough posts :(). I have tried creating a modeline on the command line, but this didn't do anything for me.

I'm not sure if this is just a modeline problem or something else. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Has anyone got it working on an S series Sony and would be willing to share their xorg.conf?

Hello,

I am experiencing the same problem :(
I have downloaded the latest driver from nvidia and it works fine ! The only problem is i cannot set the res to 1280x800. I have set the correct vertical and horizontal freqs of the monitor in the xorg.conf. Below you can see snapshots from my xorg.conf and Xorg.Log

It seems that the driver does not support the 1280x800 mode !
