Question Sony CRX160E Mounting Problems

My Sony CRX160E CD-RW drive won't mount in Slackware 10.2 with the 2.4 kernel. I have it set to boot with SCSI emulation. Whenever I try to get it to mount and a CD is in the drive it says that I must "specify the filesystem type".
