SMP detection

HI Guys,

I am trying to develop a linux distribution (kernel 2.6.0) with enterprised feature. SMP is one among the enterprise feature. I believe that if a system has SMP/Hugemem then we need to build a different kernel.

My problem is that I am not finding way to detect SMP/Hugemem. Can any one tell me is there any configuration file which I can go though during installation and come to know that the system has SMP/Hugemem and act accordingly.

Another question that came into my mind is that if a system has SMP/Hugemem what extra thing is needed to behave properly.

Thanks in advance

Recent kernel versions, if compiled properly, can detect multiple cores (CPUs or Hyperthreading) and accomodate them automatically. This is why no modern distros have -smp kernel packages anymore.

Not sure on the memory bit.

hugemem

Hi Hollywoodb,

Thanks for giving me the information. Can u please tell when a kernel should be considered as a hugemem. In some documents I read that if a system has more than 4GB memory then its a hugemem but in some I read if the available memory is >=4GB then its a hugemem.

Which one is correct ???

Any idea???

Thanks in advance.
