Post info on the wireless card portion from the command ' /sbin/lspci -v' if it is a pci or pcmcia card. If not then output from ' /sbin/lsusb ' for usb card. This should help use to see which chipset it is. once yu determine the chipset you can use the search tool to see what you need to do to install.
1. Login into the machine as root.
2. Copy the windows drivers - all the sys files, exe files and the inf file into a local dir on the linux machine.
3. Open a console window and go to the local dir in Step 2.
4. type ndiswrapper -l
5. This will give u a list of all drivers installed under ndiswrapper (default should be none).
6. type ndiswrapper -i "name of the .inf file".
7. You will see confirmation of the driver installed.
8. Verify this by going to /etc/ndiswrapper and you should see a new directory containing the files.
9. type ndiswrapper -l and verify that the driver has been installed.
10. type ndiswrapper -m (this will add the command to load the driver in modprobe.conf file).
11. type modprobe ndiswrapper.
12. type dmesg (this will list the messages and tell u if the driver was successfully loaded).
13. Go to KDE system menu and configure your wlan0 to match ur network settings.
14. Have fun browsing !!!!
It works very well expect when I do an "rmmod ndiswrapper", the following message appear:
unregistered-netdevice: waiting for wlan0 to become free. usage count = 5
unregistered-netdevice: waiting for wlan0 to become free. usage count = 5
unregistered-netdevice: waiting for wlan0 to become free. usage count = 5
unregistered-netdevice: waiting for wlan0 to become free. usage count = 5
....
Does any one have a solution to resolve the installation of the driver of SMC2635W for mandrave live installation "free desto" on 2008 spring version?
I have my old lap top IBM i-series laptop with the PCMCIA smc2635W and Mandrake 2008 live installation. I could not get the driver installed. I have search the web and they talked about NDISwrapper and so on. Apparently i could not get anything going. The previous post and link are all dated back to 2004. Is it still valid?
I'm an newbies and idiot to linux. I have know about the console and command promp. Could any kind soul provide me an step by step guide.
Thanks for the update and news.I have figure out that the driver is all ready installed and loaded when i install mandrake 2008 spring live CD version. the only reason that is not working is because i have not congirue it to work in the drakkeconnect setting.
