SMC 2662W V3 Nightmare

Ok, I've successfully compiled and loaded the latest CVS of the
atmel USB driver for my smc 2662W v3, at76c503-rfmd.o
wireless adaptor under the 2.6 kernel. However, once I load the module, there is simply no wireless device registered.
After performing cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
I can see that it finds the thing, with an appropriate vendor ID and such.
Also dmesg indicates that the driver has been loaded.. and after unplugging and replugging it seems to unload and reload the module ok and such.. but why can't I find wlan0 anywhere? I run iwconfig and it is not there. I also try running insmod with a device name flag and no go.. right now I'm pulling my hair out.. is it something simple?

I had this working with the 2.4 kernel a while ago, however I had to use a few replacement header files before I could compile it (compile a working version that is) I believe they were internal.h and external.h. Also there was a short howto on this somewhere but after googleing for about 3 hours I can't relocate it..
Anyone? Help?..

Regards,

I figured it out

Yay..
I figured this out.
For anyone using the SMC 2662W v.3 adaptor (the infromation is on the underside of the unit) you must load the *at76c503-rfmd-acc.ko* module rather than the at76c503-rfmd.ko module. Aparently, this model uses the "Fast VNet" Accton OEM refrence design.. OK.. so says the block comment in the c file.

Hi,

I have tried to get this same thing working in Slackware with kernel 2.6.6, but no luck yet. Could you please tell me a bit how you have done it and what you are using (kernel, distro etc.)? Thanks!
