Slow USB transfer rates (60kb p/s) External HDD --> Internal HDD
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10
So, after I accidentally unplugged my external HDD WD Elements 2 TB, it has issues being recognized, mounting, and HORRIBLY slow file transfer rates. My HDD is a sata 500G harddrive (7200rpm). I was originally getting 20 MB p/s transfer rates, and it worked fine before yesterday. It's being quite unresponsive. I have music that I purchased on itunes that I put on it, so I could wipe my desktop and put Debian on with the intent to make another backup of some sort. |
Have you tried it on another PC? Do you have external power connected (if it has it)? whats the output of 'dmesg|tail' after you plug it in?
edit: I'm assuming its a 3.5" 500G SATA inside an enclosure. edit2: Looks like you have two drives, which one is giving you the problem? |
The internal harddrive works fine because I transfered files to a USB to test it, it is definitely the external

Normally I'd say read the smart values but the controller 99% of the time doesn't implement it. I'd recommend plugging it into your PC without the controller/enclosure and see if you have the same problem.

I'd run a file system check (on external hardrive) using gparted with external drive plugged in but unmounted before doing a check. Probably scrambled due to improper unmount.
