Slow hard drive - hdparm -t yields 2.41Mb/s

Hi,

I have an exceedingly slow hard drive on a CentOS
(uname -r: 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5) box and wonder what I can do to improve io speeds.
Device is 1TB Western Digital:
WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1
hdparm -Tt /dev/hdb2:
/dev/hdb2:
Timing cached reads: 26532 MB in 2.00 seconds = 13294.20 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 8 MB in 3.50 seconds = 2.29 MB/sec

Thanks in advance

Download WD's hard drive diagnostic utilities from their website, the bootable iso version, and run the diagnostics on the drive in thorough mode. Just googling "WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1" revealed a lot of people having problems with these drives, eg:
