Angry Slackware 8.1 HW config ...

Hello all,

Im not 2 sure if this is so much a hardware issue as it is a software one, i have extensive use with the installation of different distros when it comes to linux ... Now my problem is when i install a commercialized distro like RH 8 or SuSe 8.1 ... i am allowed to set my resolution to 1600x1200 at ease... Now since i find that Red Hat and Suse irritating to deal with as far as file location is concerened i eventually chose to run slackware 8.1... yet my startx won't werk.. i do get the same error as everybody else in this forum, saying "No Screens Found" ...

Now why i want this resolution to work is because i have a 19" monitor [KDS xv9flat] and an nvidia [geForce 4mmx 440 ddr] video card... what do i do to
1> get slackware to have startx to work
2> change my resolution to werk at 1600x1200 and
3> have this done at boot up

any help is much appreciated.../
PS...Don't make me switch to another distro pleaZe ...

You should use something like Redhat, or Suse that make this easy for you...

Just kidding!

First time installers of slackware will more than likely not be able to run X without first configuring it. I prefer to suggest running xf86config and while doing so you can tell it to run at 16x12 mode. 1 major hurdle I'd suggest first is installing your nvidia drivers for your card. Then, run xf86config and then edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file according to the Readme for your driver, and THEN startx (also, in slackware, to make your life easy, use xwmconfig to choose a window manager for the first time).

Cool
