xorg.conf setup - using Geforce 5500, under Slackware 10.1
hello. I have a nVidia geforce 5500 fx, and a Dell e771 monitor [says so on win]. I just installed slackware 10.1 and managed to get it working on runlevel 3 [command line]. I went and did xorgconfig and tried to set things up [i didnt know there was xorgsetup]. Unfortunately when i startx the screen goes blank. I think the problem is with the vertical and horizontal stuff of the monitor. Now I'm going to try to installa de nvidia drivers. How can I edit the xorg.conf file from the command line? how can i find out what sound card [integrated] i have?

Reason: Modified title
You can edit xorg.conf using any console based text editor and you'll probably have one of vi, nano or pico installed. pico/nano are easier to use than vi (IMO anyway).
As for your sound card, maybe try the command dmesg and see what info there is about sound. There will be a lot of output from this command, so you might like to use it with more, i.e. "dmesg | more". That will allow you to scroll.
Edit: please use more descriptive thread titles in future.
sorry for the title. What about the video problems? i tryed to install the drivers, sh nvidia[...].run, but it stopped saying something about the kernel and that it would try to do it automatically.
