Slack 9.1, SB5.1, no sound from back speakers

Hello. I've googled my rear off trying to find a solution to this.
Running Slack 9.1, kernel 2.4.22. I've got sound but only from
the centre speaker. The front and rear get nothing. I've tweaked
around with alsamixer to no avail. The speakers are the Inspire 5.1 5200 w/subwoofer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I found this in my travels. Have to tried this approach:

I have found a solution to the problem though.

Run the program alsamixer which can be found in the alsa-utils package at theALSA website

Go to the item "SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack" and hit "m" to mute it. Finally, go to "Wave Surround" and adjust to preference. You should now have sound in your rear speakers
