Slack 10, kernel 2.6.7, alsa (1.0.7)

Ok, I had a thread going over here regarding this problem. It all started when I was trying to install Rosegarden.

It doesn't create /dev/sequencer (or /dev/snd/seq, which is what rosegarden needs).

I uninstalled ALSA 1.0.5a in favor of building a new alsa from source. Note that the seq device didn't exist before, either. lsmod returns that dev_snd_seq is compiled as a module, but like I said - it doesn't exist anywhere in /dev. Other sound has always worked.

Peacedog 01-06-2005 06:11 PM

What does your /etc/modules.conf look like? Does the module load, what does lsmod report?
good luck.

SocialEngineer 01-06-2005 06:37 PM

/etc/modules.conf only has one line, for my nvidia drivers.

lsmod output:

It appears as if the module is loading? What card is this? Please post the output from /sbin/lspci -v.
good luck.

SocialEngineer 01-06-2005 06:54 PM

SB Live Value. I have an nForce mobo with built in sound, too, but I prefer to use the SB Live (better recording and output quality - while the nForce chipset has ASIO, I still prefer the SB Live).

Here is the output of /sbin/lspci -v.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

Please don't create new threads pointing to other existing threads. Instead, simply update the existing thread with the new information. This thread will be closed, please direct replies to this thread. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes. Thanks -- J.W.

That's cool, however, I felt the scope of the thread had outgrown the software forum, considering this has more to do with hardware. I pointed to the previous thread just to give people a reference to what has already been discussed. Sorry for not following the rules :/
