Skype Problems with new ADSL Modem

Dear All,
I have a Slackware server that is doing IPTables Routing
for all the network here. It is attached on one end to a
switch for the network, and on the other to an ADSL 2+
Modem (through Ethernet).

All is fine internetwise (here I am infact), except for Skype
which shows very high error rates and random disconnects.
I know this is not the Skype support forum, but the skype
forum is thoroughly useless, and I was wondering if anyone
here had any experience with the matter.

Interestingly our ADSL Line is only standard ADSL, but the
Modem has decided to put itself into ADSL 2+ mode - could this
be the problem?

This seems to be a very advanced modem (it can do routing and
bridging - it is doing both now), but there seems to be no immediate way of taking it out of ADSL 2+ Mode.

Thanks for any help,

Riddick
