SkyPE Fedora Plantronics
Hello all, I recently installed Skype, and having bought a recommended USB headset from Plantronics, assumed all would be plain sailing. WRONG !!!. I cannot get either the headset or microphone to work ( no ring when making a call - although the remote user can see me when I'm trying to connect to them ) I also have an onboard souncard which is configured / loaded with other things as follows
#/etc/modprobe.conf alias snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio alias snd-card-1 snd-via82xx alias char-major-116 snd alias usb-controller ehci-hcd alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss alias eth0 via-rhine alias eth1 8139too alias scsi_hostadapter advansys install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || : remove snd-via82xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx If I try and change any settings using KMix I'm only given a PCM and mic slider bar ( where have all the other controls gone ? ) I know nothing about sound in Linux except that it has always worked for me, can anyone help ? I've tried the SkyPe FAQ on sound and nothing helped, also if I look at system settings/ Soundcard detection a dialog pops up with the snd-via82xx listed not my Plantronics, and to make it worse the test sound comes out of the headset not my speakers confused Pete Kane just noticed something else, if someone tries to connect to me using SkyPE I hear a ring from the headset - stranger and stranger. |
PLANTRONICS SUSE SKYPE ALSA
Same problem here.
SUSE Linux 10.0 / ALSA sound system Plantronics USB headset works when tested with gnomemeeting ( voice is recorded and played back ). But Skype refuses to work with the headset. No sound at all... Searched several days on the web. Seems like this is a common problem, but can 't find a solution. Seems like a common Fedora / SUSE problem Anyone an idea ? IkkeNie :D |
Some of the skype headsets specifically state they are for M$ only.
I use the Plantronics headset that uses the sound card on both Fedora Core 4 and Mandriva 2006, no issues works a treat, and they are only £12.99 a pop. HTH Cod |
