sis 900 fast ethernet card issues

Well, if config is picking up the card, but it isn't reveiving a ip address via dhcp, i tried assinging it a static ip, but it still wouldn't connect. Here are some info files that might help. I'm running Suse 9.0 pro and i have the kernel k_smp4g-2.4.21-99. Does the k_smp4g matter if i need to upgrade my kernel?

I am having similar problems with an asus a7s8x-mx motherboard (sis900 chipset) with Mandrake 10.1 (kernel 2.6.8 I believe).
My problems involve starting the network:

Bringing up interface eth0: [ FAILED ]

But I still usually get an IP address, and I can use the internet. However shorewall does not work at all (does not block traffic). I have setup shorewall/iptables on at least 3 other Mandrake 10.1 machines with no problem.

I have checked my logs, but I am not sure where to look besides the kernel/dmesg logs. I have googled and searched lq quite a bit. I believe our (Stuffy89's) problems are related.

Anyone know what to do?
