This is the very first time I have used a message board. For a long time I didnt believe in them. Since I got into linux recently they have been some help.
I found a working tweak that jump starts the SiS 7012 chip. I was just about confused as the first guy. I thought that the sound was muted, or was set to a low volume. At that time I had just installed Mandrake 9.1, and I had learned how my cd burner worked, so the SiS sound was next on my hardware list. I searched for about an hour for a solution, I got a few pages that had a patch. I never tried that. What I did in fact was turnt the "acpi=off" variable in /etc/lilo.conf to "acpi=on". I am not sure what ACPI is, but since I turnt it on, I havent had any problems and my sound works fine.
I will add in this last section for people who do not know how to edit the lilo.conf file. First I fired up the terminal, got root by typing "su", then my password. Second I typed the command "kwrite /etc/lilo.conf". Kwrite should fire up, if you do not see the acpi=off statment you can add it in on a new line.
