Need help to resolve "silence" on new install. Running SUSE 10.2 on ASUS P5VD2-MX-SE mobo. On-board audio is enabled in the BIOS chipset, and YaST reports sound card 0 and its driver. Speakers are Altec Lansing 100. Other than a single "pop" on boot-up and on shutdown, I don't have any sound. Any ideas, folks? Could this be a mobo/speaker incompatibility?
A) Make sure you are a member of the "audio" group.
B) Run the "alsaconf" program. Doing this may install drivers you need
C) Run the YaST2 audio setup.

Thanks. Have tried all that to no avail. Will try another set of speakers.
Run the "alsamixer" program. I think the default is for the output to be muted. If this is a "media" desktop, check if there is another output. Maybe the audio output on the front is live and the one in the back isn't.
